Seriously, if you put video of MT 2K21 side by side using NBA 2K20 I'd challenge you to see the difference in the images. This isn't a dreadful thing, since this franchise has a long history of being among the best-looking sports games out there, but it's a little disappointing to see how little has changed year over year. This implies last year's blemishes have carried more: players still look good, but outside of the superstars such as Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James there's something a small generic about the layouts.
Some faces have too little detail and remarkably large players like Shaquille O'Neal (who is rostered about the"All-Time Lakers" squad readily available in the demo) don't have the same kind of massive existence they do in real life.
Luckily, the more time I spent with all the brand new shot-stick mechanic, the greater NBA 2K21 began to separate itself. The brand new shot meter, which necessitates aiming shots rather than simply timing them, is utilized entirely with the right analog stick. It needs a straight pull downward (or upward, when driving toward the basket) and then centering the rod inside of the sweet spot on the meter. Not only did I find that this brand new shot meter vastly more challenging, it also fixed a handful of other issues I've had with NBA 2K for ages.
First of all, I never need to worry about accidentally hurling a shot up when I am trying to make a dribble move. Pulling directly back on the analog stick and holding it there will result in a shot, while any flicks or other faster motions will end in a dribbling move. The new shot meter opens up the right-stick for use entirely for dribbling moves, which includes the ability to size-up or utilize escape dribbles. Everything feels a whole lot cleaner, which is a wonderful change for a series where matters were beginning to feel overly cluttered to control.
The shot-stick mechanic also feels like a direct response to issues with latency online. Even though the demo does not feature the ability to play online matches, it's easy to see a future where most online players will use the aimed shot meter instead of the older timed meter (which is still available via the X or square button). Instead of Buy NBA 2K MT trying to guess how much latency there will be with each jump shot, it should be a lot more efficient to pull back on the analog stick and aim the shot rather.
