Boredom Strikes? Let's Kill It

With so many entertainment outlets, we sometimes think that we'd never, ever get bored. Yet, there are still times that we find myself wandering here and there in the house, simply thinking about something to do. Why is it so? Do you get bored?

With so many entertainment outlets, we sometimes think that we'd never, ever get bored. Yet, there are still times that we find myself wandering here and there in the house, simply thinking about something to do. Why is it so? Do you get bored?

If you experience the same lack of enthusiasm, then you are in the right place. Here are some tried and true ways to say goodbye to your boredom or at least occupy your time until something fantastic comes along.

1) Take Care of Your To-Do List

You know you have one — that mental list of minor tasks that you intend to complete someday. Today, however, is that day. Call Aunt Martha, have the comforter cleaned, and check the oil in your car and the air in your bicycle tires.

2) Organize the Garage

Okay, we realize this is probably more than a one-day project, but imagine how good you'll feel when you're finished. Use plastic tubs to store your belongings, and clearly label each tub or box for easy identification. Then you'll know what to expect the next time you need to dig out holiday decorations or old-style scrapbooks.

3) Take a Rest

So, you love naps? If you already take a lot of naps, disregard this advice. It's time to try something new. Otherwise, feel free to sleep for a few minutes. Every day, the world would have been a much better place if we all took a mid-afternoon nap and snack.

4) Make Something New

No, we are not referring to a different kind of Hamburger Helper. Find a recipe that needs some effort, preferably one that is genuinely outside your wheelhouse and can be called "art" with the right garnish. Experiment with your taste buds. You may enjoy it.

5) Choose a Cause

Back in the 1980s, before the Internet, cell phones, and emails, we had the honor of working with a fantastic non-profit organization dedicated to fighting pound seizure. We distributed flyers, marched to City Hall. It felt liberating. If you're bored, you might need to find something you're passionate about.

6) Educate Yourself

Return to school or experiment with one of the many online or self-study options. Many of them are even free, so there's no reason not to broaden your horizons.

7) Decorate a Room

Instead of neutrals, consider blues and greens with splashes of yellow or bold with black, white, and red. Alternatively, if you're feeling daring, try some of these fun painting ideas from a reliable source.

8) Change Your Hair Color

Do you want a girly thing? So, change your hair color. Have you ever heard about the Revlon collection? Everyone loves it in high school. We all wanted to color our hair. However, t's still fun to try something exciting and creative now and then. And it's incredible how different you look when you change the shade of your mane.
